Make a lasting difference

Childhood cancer changes everything for a family. A gift in your Will is a legacy of care and hope, changing lives for so many families to come. Your legacy means they don’t have to walk the path alone.

Your Legacy of Hope

When you leave a gift in your Will to Child Cancer Foundation, you keep personalised care wrapped around every family facing childhood cancer in New Zealand.

For nearly 50 years, more than XXXXX families have come through our doors and been wrapped in our care. This year, more are in need of our support than ever before.

Why your gift matters

While medical professionals are incredible at what they do, Child Cancer Foundation is there to offer the practical, financial and emotional care they can’t provide. It is only thanks to generous donors who leave a gift in their Will that we can help families face the unimaginable.

Your legacy will live on in:

The families who are cared for when their child’s life hangs in the balance. For them, it is life-changing to know they’re not alone.

The families who sadly lose their child to cancer. Your gift helps cover funeral costs and more, for as long as they need us.

The children who survive. Your generosity supports them and their families as they adjust to their new lives. Including any life-altering after effects of their life-saving treatment.

Gifts in Wills change lives, for everyone in the family

Childhood cancer impacts the whole whānau. It ripples out to all members, for many years to come. The research is clear – the wellbeing of the entire family matters deeply.

Types of gifts, and example wording

It’s a convenient option when you want to allocate various percentages to different people and/or organisations. It also ensures the value of your gift will not diminish due to inflation over your lifetime.

From 1% to 100% of your estate, your gift will make a tremendous difference in the lives of families facing childhood cancer.

Example wording for your Will:

I would like to gift (Insert Amount)% of my estate to Child Cancer Foundation Inc (registered charity number CC20434), for its general charitable purposes. I declare that a receipt given by the Treasurer or other proper officer of the Foundation shall be an absolute discharge to my Trustees.

It’s a great way to ensure your family is taken care of first, and needs little to no updating if your circumstances change. It also ensures the value of your gift will not diminish due to inflation over your lifetime.

From 1% to 100% of your estate, your gift will make a tremendous difference in the lives of families facing childhood cancer.

Example wording for your Will:

I would like to gift the residue (or percent share of the residue) of my estate to Child Cancer Foundation Inc (registered charity number CC20434), for its general charitable purposes. I declare that a receipt given by the Treasurer or other proper officer of the Foundation shall be an absolute discharge to my Trustees.

It allows you to allot a specific sum that you wish to leave to us. Over time, inflation may reduce the actual value of your gift unless you update your Will.

A gift of any size is deeply appreciated by the children and families we care for.

Example wording for your Will:

I would like to gift the sum of $(insert amount) to Child Cancer Foundation Inc (registered charity number CC20434), for its charitable general purposes. I declare that a receipt given by the Treasurer or other proper officer of the Foundation shall be an absolute discharge to my Trustees.

Kiwis just like you have left an enduring legacy of hope

FAQs

Further answers to your questions

  • The simplest way is to talk with your solicitor or legal adviser. They can answer any questions, help you decide on a gift that best reflects your wishes and values, and make sure your wishes are clearly documented and legally binding. Please take our full name and registered charity number with you:

    Child Cancer Foundation Inc.
    Charity Registration Number: CC20434

  • If you already have a Will, you don’t need to start over. Your solicitor can add what’s called a “codicil”, which is a short legal amendment to your existing Will. It’s quick and straightforward to include Child Cancer Foundation at any time.

  • Your solicitor will prepare the exact wording, but here is some suggested text you can share with them:

“I give to Child Cancer Foundation Inc (Charity Registration Number CC20434), [the residue of my estate/xx% of my estate/the sum of $xxxx/specific asset] for its general charitable purposes. I declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other authorised officer will be a sufficient discharge to my Trustees.”

  • The best gift is the one that feels right for you. Many people choose to leave a percentage of their estate, as this keeps the value of their gift in line with inflation. Others prefer to leave a specific sum of money, or a particular asset such as shares or property.

Most importantly, we encourage you to look after your family and loved ones first and then consider including a gift to Child Cancer Foundation if you’re able. Whatever you choose, we are deeply grateful. Any and every amount will make a lasting impact for children and families facing childhood cancer.

  • You don’t need to be wealthy to make a lasting difference. A gift of 1% can help us provide vital support to children with cancer and their whānau. Often, it’s the collective generosity of many people, each leaving what they can, that makes the biggest impact. We deeply appreciate each and every gift.

  • Most of our legacy supporters allow us to use their gift where it’s needed most, so we can respond to the changing needs of families across Aotearoa.

However, if you have something specific in mind, we’re happy to discuss it with you to ensure we can honour your wishes.

Please reach out to Dominique Leeming, our Philanthropy Manager, and she will be happy to help. You can email her at dleeming@childcancer.org.nz or call her on 021 277 2291.

  • To honour the generosity of our legacy supporters, we partner with Trees That Count to plant native trees in memory of each person who leaves a gift to us in their Will. These native trees are part of larger restoration projects across Aotearoa, creating a living legacy that will benefit future generations.

  • Since Trees That Count plants trees within thriving, carefully managed restoration projects, it’s not possible to mark individual trees or visit a specific one.

Instead, your legacy becomes part of a collective and natural forest – a shared tribute to all New Zealanders who have chosen to make a lasting difference. This approach ensures the trees grow naturally in harmony with the environment they’re helping to restore.

  • You don’t need to, and we understand that a Will is a deeply personal document. Letting us know means we can thank you properly during your lifetime, keep you connected to the impact of your future gift, and make sure we understand your wishes. Of course, any information you share will be kept in the strictest confidence.

  • If you have any other questions or would simply like a confidential, no-obligation chat, please contact our Philanthropy Manager, Dominique Leeming on 021 277 2291 or dleeming@childcancer.org.nz. We’d love to hear from you.
