How and Why We Fundraise
Child Cancer Foundation ensures every family going through childhood cancer in New Zealand has personalised support at a time when they need it most.
Every week, four Kiwi families hear the devastating words: “your child has cancer.”
Child Cancer Foundation is the only charity in New Zealand dedicated to supporting every child diagnosed and their whānau.
We receive no government funding. Everything we do is only possible thanks to generous New Zealanders. We raise funds through many ways, you can learn about some of them here.
The power of talking it through
Why We Use Face-to-Face and Telefundraising
Personal connection matters. Speaking directly with people across New Zealand allows us to share the impact of childhood cancer and invite more supporters to stand with families through regular giving.
Regular donations are especially powerful because they provide steady, reliable funding. They allow us to plan ahead and be there for families for as long as they need us.
We work with trusted fundraising partners who share our values and commitment to respectful, meaningful conversations.
Face-to-Face Fundraising
You may see our friendly fundraisers in shopping centres, community hubs or other public spaces.
Our fundraisers:
- Wear clearly branded Child Cancer Foundation clothing
- Carry official photo ID
- Do not accept cash donations
While some charities use door-to-door fundraising, we don’t currently fundraise this way.
If you choose to join as a regular giver, our fundraisers can help you set up a secure donation by direct debit or credit card.

Telefundraising
From time to time, you may receive a call from one of our trusted telefundraising partners. These calls give us the chance to connect directly, share the impact of your support, and invite people to stand with families through regular giving.
Our telefundraisers will:
- Introduce themselves and explain they’re calling on behalf of Child Cancer Foundation
- Be clear about the purpose of their call
- Confirm we have the right contact details for you
- Share how your support makes a difference
- Help you set up a secure gift over the phone if you choose to give
They may also contact current supporters to check details or talk about ongoing contributions.
Want to make sure a call is genuine?
- Our partners call from these numbers: 09 967 8618 and 09 967 8641
- Still unsure? Call us directly on 0800 424 453 or email us on donations@childcancer.org.nz and we’ll be happy to help.
Fundraising comes in all shapes and sizes
Digital and Other Fundraising
You may also see us fundraising online - through our website, emails, or social media - as well as through initiatives such as:
- Community fundraising events
- Workplace giving and matched donations
- Wig Wednesday and a nationwide Street Appeal
- Partnerships with schools, clubs and businesses
No matter how you choose to give, your support ensures families never walk the childhood cancer journey alone.
Our Commitment to Ethical Fundraising
Child Cancer Foundation is a proud member of the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PRFA), which oversees face-to-face fundraising in New Zealand. As members, we follow a strict code of conduct and are committed to fundraising that is always transparent, ethical, and respectful.
