Announcing 30% more funding for Health Professionals
We’re boosting the funds available to our Health Professionals Grant programme to strengthen care for children with cancer in New Zealand.
Empowered and well supported health professionals are critical to paediatric cancer research, treatment and outcomes in New Zealand. So, as of July 2025, we are pleased to share that the Child Cancer Foundation Board have decided to increase the funds available to our Health Professional Grant (HPG) by 30% this year.
This significant boost recognises the crucial role that health professionals play in the wellbeing of children and families facing childhood cancer. It also reflects our charity’s continued commitment to strengthening the knowledge, skills and capabilities of the clinicians who work with and for these whānau every day.
A more streamlined approach
Alongside the funding increase, we’re introducing a new process for HPG applications. This year, we’re trialling a bulk funding model and allocating set budgets directly to the two main clinical centres in Christchurch and Auckland.
Clinical staff are encouraged to speak with their clinical leads, who will determine how the funding is distributed – for conference attendance or other professional development opportunities, for example. This change aims to reduce unnecessary administration and better align funding decision making with each centre’s specific needs and requirements. Applications can be made on our website.
Ensuring nationwide access
We have also set aside a dedicated fund for those based outside the two main centres. Health professionals from other regions can continue to apply for individual grants through the same application form above.
Spreading the word
To get things started, we’ve shared flyers with clinical leads and are relying on our teams across the motu to help spread the news. If you are health professional yourself, feel free to print a few copies of the flyer and leave them in staff breakrooms to encourage applications.
We look forward to boosting the support behind the incredible professionals who do such vital mahi for New Zealand’s children facing childhood cancer.
