The NZCCR Snapshot for 2023
Have a look at the latest childhood cancer statistics from the New Zealand Children's Cancer Registry (NZCCR).
The New Zealand Children’s Cancer Registry (NZCCR) is a population-based registry that holds verified demographic and treatment information for all children diagnosed with cancer since January 2000. Child Cancer Foundation are proud to support the making of this publication.
The Snapshot shows a brief overview of some of the key statistics from the NZCCR about child cancer diagnoses in New Zealand in 2023.
This data is so important to New Zealand. It helps guide clinical practice, inform childhood cancer service planning and is used to evaluate health outcomes for children with cancer in New Zealand with the goal to improve.
The latest data shows that in 2023:
– 145 tamariki (under 16) were diagnosed with cancer
– 27 had their cancer return
– 32 on the registry sadly passed away
The NZCCR data includes children up to the age of 16.
Just so you know, the Snapshot reports on childhood cancer diagnoses – the total number of children receiving treatment for childhood cancer is much greater.
