Trauma Informed Care Manuals available now
New resources on Trauma Informed Care available to help improve outcomes for tamariki.
We are delighted to share that we have launched four booklets on Trauma Informed Care at a special event hosted by National MP Dr Hamish Campbell at Parliament House today.
The four-volume series, researched and written by Alex Hanlon whose son sadly passed away from a childhood cancer, explores what trauma is, how it can manifest, what it looks like for Māori and non-Māori, as well as the long-term effects of trauma on children and families.
“Children and their families undergoing diagnosis and treatment for a childhood cancer experience many traumas both big and small,” explains Child Cancer Foundation CEO Monica Briggs (MNZM), who adds that reducing trauma is a key tool in improving long-term health outcomes for children and their whānau.
One of the reports has been translated into Te Reo Māori, in acknowledgement of the intergenerational trauma faced by Māori whānau.
“This is part of an important journey for the Foundation and one in which we hope other organisations who support children and families join us on,” says Monica.
The booklets are set to be a valuable resource for anyone who wants to learn more about this important mahi, or improve outcomes for children and their whānau.
